ABC Surveys
The ABC expeditions combine vegetation inventories and multi-taxa wildlife surveys to assess biodiversity and carbon stocks.
Our vegetation surveys are standardised to the ForestPlots protocol and sample trees, lianas, ferns and soil. We also use LiDAR surveys to quantify the vegetation structure of our forest sites.
We use a range of survey techniques to sample the diversity of faunal taxa, covering invertebrates (including ants, bees, carrion-flies, dung-beetles, termites, and wasps), amphibians, birds, reptiles, small mammals and large vertebrates.
In addition to traditional survey and collecting techniques, we use camera-traps and audio-recorders to boost our detection of species. We also use cutting-edge molecular approaches, including eDNA from streams, and iDNA from carrion-flies and dung-beetles.
