He is a collaborator in the ABC Expeditions project, in the fields of taxonomy and systematics of Scarabeinae (dung beetles).
Fernando Z. Vaz-de-Mello holds a degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV, 2001), Master’s in Entomology from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) and PhD in Systematics from the Institute of Ecology (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mexico). He did postdoctoral studies at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (Paris, France, PDE CNPq, 2013-14). He is currently a professor at the Department of Biology and Zoology of the Institute of Biosciences, Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), and curator of the Entomology Section of the Zoological Collection of UFMT (2008-), research productivity fellow of CNPq (2011-), author or co-author of more than 150 scientific articles. He has oriented or co-supervised more than 30 Master's dissertations or doctoral theses, and several works of scientific initiation or completion of undergraduate courses. He has research experience in systematics and taxonomy of recent groups, working mainly on issues related to taxonomy, systematics, biogeography, faunistics and biodiversity of coleopteran insects of the superfamily Scarabaeoidea; and teaching in the areas of systematics, evolution, biogeography, invertebrate zoology, insect taxonomy, and history and philosophy of biological sciences.
